November 25- The DMZ
Today Michael took his third trip to the DMZ (no fair…I’ve NEVER been!). All the senior NCOs were making the day trip up to the highly tense dividing line. I swear, one weekend I will make it there! We just haven’t gotten up there yet because children are not allowed inside the Demilitarized Zone. He didn’t take too many pictures (he says he “left some for me to take”…yeah right) but I thought this one was interesting. This is the DMZ. Not at all what I expected. The building in the rear is North Korean territory. The blue buildings lie in the actual DMZ. They’re neutral territory so to speak. You are actually allowed to go inside the buildings, one of which is where the armistice was signed separating Korea into North and South. Michael tells me that when the South Korean (and the rest of the world) visitors enter, they lock the door to the North Korean side. When the North Korean visitors enter, they lock the door to the South Korean side. Interesting, and a little scary.
Michael and a South Korean guard. Please leave the young man alone and let him continue doing his very important job.
Um, no Michael. You’re not supposed to be attempting to further separate the world!
As the children have grown too big to squeeze into one baby tub, and our home here has no actual bathtubs (only showers), we’ve had to rethink our baby bathing situation. So, now we have babies bathing side by side in their own tub. This way they still can enjoy the bath time company, splashing in the water together (splash may be an understatement), but they’re a little less cramped. Of course, now it’s just twice the amount of water to splash out of the tub and onto the floor (good thing the floors have drains in them).
