December 18- Battalion Christmas Party

Tonight we attended Michael’s Battalion Christmas party held at the Pyongtaek Convention Center near Camp Humphrey. I had to include this picture of us getting ready to walk out the door of our hotel room because it is the only picture with me in it from the entire evening! I don’t know how it always happens, but I’m always the one behind the camera, and never end up in any pictures with my kids. Wonder why that is? (Hum, could it be that very expensive BFA in photography…the one that is getting zero use…wouldn’t my professors be proud after all those tireless hours they dedicated to my education…).
Ella is obsessed with the round Christmas ornaments. She loves walking up to our tree at home and pointing at each one while saying “baaaaall”. She was beyond excited to find they had decorated each table with these ball shaped ornaments!
Both looking very dapper tonight!
I suppose every child holds something they resent against their parents. Tonight we gave Sterling some pretty good ammunition. I ordered some knee-highs for him to wear with his Christmas Jon Jon, but of course, they hadn’t arrived by the time we left for Camp Humphrey. I had no other option but to put him in a pair of tights. I simply couldn’t let him go bare legged here…it’s cold outside! So, tights it was for the boy tonight. Oh well, I’m sure he’d find something to hate us for eventually!
All these holiday meals have brought the introduction of several foods we don’t eat on a regular basis; therefore, they may be new to the kids. For example ham, and sweet potatoes, two foods they have found that they love! And little tangerines. They go crazy for the little oranges Ella likes to call “apple.”
This young lady entertained partygoers with beautiful music on the ajaeng, a traditional Korean string instrument.
Give this girl some music, and she’s ready to dance.
My kids will be in for such a rude awakening when we return to the states. They truly think they are the center of attention everywhere we go. And they are! At least here in Korea they are. Forget the fact that there was a room full of people watching, these two were hamming it up dancing and turning circles while the emcee talked.
When will the Christmas season and all it’s sweets and cookies be over? This little boy has had his share of sweets to last him the rest of the year! Ugh.
Ella tried very hard to get this little boy to hold her hand, but he was having none of that. Sorry sweetheart, sometimes boys are a little afraid of blunt girls.
Sterling tells Daddy all about the presents he found for the children under the tree.
Ella very gingerly practices unwrapping a Christmas present given to Daddy.
I see London, I see France. Ella may not have found a boyfriend in the first little boy, but apparently this little boy thought Ella was very cute. So cute he was looking up her dress! Actually, in this poor child’s defense, I think he was just surprised to see writing on her diaper bloomers!
Who doesn’t love monogrammed diaper covers? This is what had the little boy so intrigued.
Stopping to pose for a picture with some new friends. The Korean workers who work with Michael’s battalion were also invited to join in the party, so there were lots of other Korean children there to run around and play with.
