January 7- Playtime at Gymboree
Today Sarah and I ventured out to the Gymboree play gym here in Wonju. Yes, we have a real Gymboree gym here! The language barrier was a little bit of a problem only in trying to register and pay the fees, other than that the kiddos certainly had no problem fitting right in! Give them a space to run around and climb, add a little music, and who cares what the lyrics are? They’re having fun! I really think all 3 babies really enjoyed themselves. They each participated in the class and ran themselves silly. It was so much fun seeing them interact with such a large group of toddlers similar in age to them. I can’t wait to go back!
Before the class started, the kids were able to play freely on all the gym equipment. I think the free play alone would make joining Gymboree worth it!
My kids couldn’t get it through their very large heads that these weren’t slides. I think the little ones were supposed to climb up the ramp with the aide of the handgrips, but no, my kids couldn’t stop attempting to slide downward. Watch out below, Evie!
I’m so impressed. Both Evie and Sterling enjoyed trying to climb through this obstacle course.
It was so funny. At one point the kids were all running freely around the room, then the instructor put on the music, and all the kids would start running to where the music was coming from. They played “If you’re happy and you know it” in Korean, as well as “Head, shoulders, knees and toes”, two of Ella and Sterling’s favorite songs!
Part of this class was devoted to structured playtime, while the other half of the class was more open playtime. Today’s class was all about jumping. It started off with a little story about a kae gu ri (frog) then the theme of jumping was incorporated into all the play.
How sweet is that? A double rocking horse! We need one!
This thing had to be one of the biggest hits with all the kids in the class. They rolled this soft mat out for all the kids to pound on. They were supposed to tap in varying degrees of loudness, but my kids weren't too good at the tapping quietly. They just wanted to pound away! And what fun they had!
Musical, it was not.
The bubbles were a huge hit with all the babies, of course! I love watching their faces light up when they actually manage to catch a bubble on their tiny little finger tips. It’s so precious!
Ella in one word: inquisitive.
Talk about Romper Room! When they brought out the colorful parachute, all the kids went wild! All the little ones would run crazy circles under the parachute while the mommies held it up and shook it. It was a mad house full of squealing babies!
Eve and Ella really loved this game! After the parachute had been put aside, they were in the corner trying to pull it over their heads!
This is one of my all time favorite pictures of Ella and Eve, ever! They were so cute hugging! After taking this picture, they still wouldn’t stop hugging, and ended up collapsing on top of each other. It was hysterical! We sure are going to miss Eve and her parents when they leave Korea in a few months.
All that play makes for a parched boy and girls!
After our exciting playtime at the gym, we went to Mr. Pizza’s for lunch. Look at these two crazy girls. They had so much fun munching on fruit, tomatoes (okay, technically a fruit), and pizza as well as sipping their orangeade drinks. Talk about a red letter day for these kids!
Get ready for a picture overload.
