August 30- First stop

So, eventually we got everything packed. Whatever we’ve left we’ll just have to do without. Michael and I were up until the wee hours of the morning packing, weighing and re-packing suitcases. Each suitcase has to be 50 lbs. or less. We have four weighing in at exactly 50 lbs. each. And we know, because we put them on the scale!
We actually got everything, including the kids, loaded into the car, and on the road by 10am. Our flight out wasn’t until 6 pm, but we planned on getting up to Seoul and going to Yongsan Army base for lunch and to let the kids play on the playground there and tire themselves out before heading to the airport. So, after lunch, we played, played, played on the awesome toddler playground. Ella and Sterling wormed their ways through tunnels, twisted and turned every knob, and climbed in several “tree houses.” I’m so jealous; I wish we had a great playground like this on our base!
Two can play this game!
Sterling LOVED all the playthings he could spin, pop, or push. What fun for a little boy!

I can’t tell you how excited we were when we arrived at our gate only to find a children’s play area right. next. door.!!! No kidding, directly next to our gate was a closed off room (think something like a smoking lounge). That was full of soft climbing mats, a huge ball pit, little tables and chairs, a nursery with a changing table, and sofa, and a bathroom with wee toilets. It was so great! I wish every airport had such great accommodations. While we waited for our flight to begin boarding, the kids ran off the last of their energy in the playroom and ball pit. Love it!
The biggest ball pit ever! Well, probably not. But, it’s certainly the largest gathering of balls Ella and Sterling have ever seen!
How brilliant is this? Even the bathroom door has a cut out window in it so parents can keep an eye on their children from either side.
Isn’t this just the cutest thing ever? Look at all those little cubbyholes for storing your carry-on luggage while you play.
After making it safely on board, I felt like I could finally relax and breath again. Isn’t that crazy? It was more relaxing facing a 14-hour flight with 2 toddlers than the stress of packing, and getting everything ready for our trip like I’ve been doing this past week. I knew the flight wasn’t going to be a 14-hour nap for us, but at least we were boarded, hopefully our luggage was stored in the belly of the plane, and eventually we would land on American soil. Ahhhh, breath.
Although Sterling and Ella were supposed to be our lap passengers, Delta was kind enough to sit us next to 2 empty seats we could use. Of course, Sterling wasn’t hearing anything about his own seat. Oh no, he was very much so looking forward to spending 14 hours glued to his Daddy’s lap. So, Daddy resigned himself to reading the same 2 books we brought on the plane with us…over…and over…and over again.
Eventually Sterling agreed the in-flight cartoons sounded like a good idea. And so, with his little headphones on he watched a video…from the comfort of Daddy’s lap. What fun! TV’s, headphones, and buttons!
This was the most beautiful sight in the world to Michael. Myself, and every passenger within a 6-seat radius. A sleeping baby. Make that 2 sleeping babies. The kids stayed up for the first hour of the flight, then they slept for about 5 hours. They were awake for about 2 hours in the middle of the flight, when they woke up for a mid-flight meal, and a little stretching, then they went back to sleep. Ell woke up after about 3 hours later, but Sterling slept until we hit Atlanta. Truly. Not a bad flight at all, all things considered.
What could possibly be sweeter than a sleeping baby. It was actually kind of fun having the babies asleep on the seats next to us. Since the children sleep in their own room, we rarely get to spend hours just watching them sleep peacefully. It’s so beautiful.
