August 31- Thank God for Grand-Mère!
Jet lag is just the pits for anyone, but particularly for babies. There is just simply no way to explain to them why you want them to stay awake all night, and sleep all day. The time difference is 13 hours to Eastern time zone, so lliterally, their little bodies think it’s time to go to bed at 7 in the morning, and wake up again around 6 o’clock at night. So, our first night in the states was rough to say the least. We didn’t make it home until around 11pm (the Atlanta airport’s customs and immigrations process needs some serious refining). Thank God Grand-Mère had a pot roast waiting in the crock-pot, and a homemade blueberry pie cooling. Can life get any better after a long flight? We had the babies in bed by midnight, but promptly at 2 am, both babies woke up, and again at 5:30am. This stinks! I’m not used to sleepless nights anymore! I kept hoping that Sterling would eventually fall back asleep after that 5:30 wake up, but no such luck. By 6am the whole house was up, including Grand-Mère. Luckily for these little jet lagged babies (and their very tired and frazzled parents) Grand-Mère was dying to show them all the new toys she bought them. So, while Mommy and Daddy woke up, Grand-Mère took the kids for a very long walk. Since the last time we were in the states, she was recovering from transplant surgery, I think Grand-Mère was very excited to get to do things like dress and bathe the babies, and take them for a walk (and show off her beautiful grandchildren to a few dozen neighbors or so).
One night in Atlanta, and we were back on the road. This time to Alabama. First stop in Alabama was Florence to see Grammy, Mom Gibson, Aunt Becky, Maddox, and baby Lucy. Since we’ve been gone, Grammy has hung this awesome little swing in her front yard. Sterling and Ella were very excited to give it a whirl!
Ella LOVED flying in this little swing. If she could speak, I’m sure she would’ve been saying, “higher, higher, Daddy!”
It’s so good to be back in Florence! We’ve truly missed this place! I can't believe the last time we were here, Sterling was barely even crawling. Now he's running!
Maddox says: “What do you mean? I have to share all my toys with these two?”Just kidding! Actually, Maddox, was very gracious in allowing Ella and Sterling to play with all his toys, read all his books, and even displace him from his own crib. Before Maddox was even born, Ella had to borrow his sleeper one night when she soiled her own clothes. I told Becky then that she was going to have a very kind boy, since he was already sharing and he hadn’t even been born yet! Well, it turns out I was right! This is the sweetest little boy, who very kindly offered his crib to his little friends while they were visiting. Thank you Maddox and Lucy!
