August 16- Eating at Chili's

Today actually started yesterday.
Yesterday afternoon a mosquito bit Sterling. I saw it biting him just above his eye, but I wasn’t quick enough at swatting it off of him. This morning when he woke up, his eyebrow was so swollen it was forcing his eye to shut partially. So, we decided we should take him to the doctor, just to be on the safe, over reacting parents side. Since it was a Saturday we had to drive to Osan Airbase (about 2 hours away) to see a doctor. Once we were there, we weren’t sure after that long drive if the doctor would even be able to see Sterling or not. Apparently there is some sort of discrepancy between the Army and Air Force medical reporting systems. Usually it’s no problem to see a doctor from any branch of service, but today they were having trouble finding Sterling in the system. We spent a long time entertaining the kids in the waiting room. Luckily, we were the only people there, so we weren’t annoying anybody else. At one point one of the nurses was watching us. Michael was signing with the kids, and she asked if Ella was deaf. Um, no! Hasn’t she seen anybody signing with their toddlers? I thought that was a pretty common thing now days. Anyhow, eventually we saw the doctor who said Sterling was fine of course, and he may just be one of those people who’s body reacts more strongly to being bitten than others. A little hydrocortisone ointment, and we were on our way.
Since we had already made the long trip to Osan, we decided to make the most of it by stopping to eat lunch at Chili’s on base, and then hitting up the BX and Starbucks before heading back home. It’s so much fun ordering the kids food off the kiddy menu. I’m sure in years to come I won’t find that so exciting, but since this is new to us, we thought it was very exciting. They shared the chicken finger plate and corn on the cob (their favorite). Daddy was happy to check out the lawn and garden section at the BX, and Mommy was very happy to sip on a coffee from Starbucks. All and all, a very worthwhile trip!
