July 18- 31 flavors!

Michael took the day off work so we could begin celebrating our 5th anniversary a day early. To begin the celebrations we went to Baskin Robbins…who doesn’t love 31 flavors?
Baskin Robbins here is dare I say, better than it is in the states? They offer flavors we’ve never seen before like green bean (okay, not so yummy), tomato, and one really good flavor that I love but makes no sense when translated called Mother Extraterrestrial. They also offer this great idea…ice cream fondue! It’s just like basic dessert fondue with hot melted chocolate, and things to dip like ladyfingers, pound cake, brownies, bananas, kiwi, and cherry tomatoes. Then they scoop these tiny little balls of ice cream in a variety of different flavors, and you dip them just like fondue. It’s incredible, and the chocolate hardens on the ice cream just like a dip cone! It’s yummy, and entertaining! Although, I have to say, cherry tomatoes dipped in chocolate just don’t cut it. I had to at least try it before knocking it, but it just doesn’t work. I gave it the benefit of the doubt, thinking the salty and sweet would be that perfect combination. It’s not.
Today we bought a traditional Korean grill. It’s customary for the family to eat gathered on the floor around this little grill where you cook the food as the meal progresses. We decided we needed to buy one of these grills, because as I’ve said before, when in Rome… We invited our neighbors the Chungs over to join us in using our grill for the first time. Our other neighbor Nan helped me to make a traditional bulgogi marinate, and everything turned out wonderful! We can’t wait until we’re back in the states and can take this little grill out on the boat with us to cook lunch out on the water!
Sterling’s face in this picture is worth a million words. He loved, loved, loved corn on the cob! This little boy finished an entire ear of corn all by himself.
Of course, my little Korean babies also love kim bap. This seaweed wrapped rice has become a staple of their diet. On days when they’re being picky eaters and I can’t get them to eat what I’ve fixed, I always fall back on rolling some rice up with seaweed. I like sushi rolls, but I can’t imagine eating it everyday.
