April 5- Highways and byways

We headed home to Wonju this afternoon. We had a great time in Taegu, but we heard 2 cribs calling for Ella and Sterling. Staying in a hotel with 12 month old twins isn’t exactly fun. We did have 2 rooms which we opened the door between and set up pack-n-plays in one room, while we slept in the other, but the kids just do better in their own home. I thought it would be neat to film some of the highways and byways of Korea. It’s hard to describe exactly how mountainous this region is, but be forewarned, this video may make you queasy if you’re prone to motion sickness! Oh, and yes, that is our stroller strapped to the top of the car…we always seem to over pack!

We stopped at a rest stop along the way to stretch our legs and grab a bit e to eat. The rest stops here are incredible. Because much of the country is rural farmland, there aren’t plentiful exits every couple miles filled with gas stations and fast food joints. Therefore, every hour or so you come upon a rest stop with will have a convince store and restaurant and an adjoining gas station. But don’t expect to find slimy hot dogs at these rest stops. Nope, you’ll find real dishes and utensils, and good food. Doesn’t this look yummy? It was.
Ella likes Japanese short grain rice! And she's good at eating by chopsticks too. Sterling on the other hand says she can eat his portion of rice. He flat out hates rice. As soon as you give him a mouthful of rice, he opens his mouth and lets it just fall off his tongue.
When the kids were tiny little newborns the first time we were here, their ah-jee-mah would sing them this song…all…the…time. They loved this song and would always give her one of those precious few smiles only a newborn can offer. I thought of this song a lot once we were back in the states, but certainly couldn’t vocalize it for them. Recently I heard the new nanny singing it to them. I was able to find someone who was able to translate it for me which made it very easy to find on youtube (what else?). I’m so excited to share this song with everyone back in the states.
