November 22- First Thanksgiving
Another special holiday for Ella and Sterling- their first Thanksgiving! It proved to be an overwhelming day for both babies. While their morning followed their usual routine, the rest of the afternoon was exactly what holidays always are…BUSY! Billy came over to help cook, then later, Jennifer arrived bringing her friend Kim, and Kim’s daughter Meghan. We enjoyed meeting Kim and Meghan, but all these extra people in the house terrified Ella who has been going through a bad case of stranger anxiety lately. Sterling of course has never met a stranger, so Meghan enjoyed spending the day playing with and carrying around her “boyfriend.” I think he seemed just like a baby doll come to life to her! The first picture is from the first half of the day while the kids were playing with each other (Mom and I were getting the bird in the oven). Sterling’s little Thanksgiving outfit said, “Thankful as can be” on it. I couldn’t agree more!
A Thanksgiving table or some variation of that. This year we had a super casual Thanksgiving, with as minimal fuss as possible. Since none of us had an ounce of energy left after working to pull off the holiday, we decided to stick to a low-key affair. Maybe next year we’ll pull out all the china, silver and crystal. This year we’re plenty thankful for all our miracles, and that’s enough to dress the table! Oh, but I did want to say thank you to the Mattes family for the beautiful fall bouquet they sent Mom on this holiday. The flowers did add some pizzazz to the table!
Due to the fact that we only have one highchair at Mom’s house, and two babies, that meant someone was relegated to spend Thanksgiving in the walker. Sterling drew the short straw this year. Poor Sterling. Not exactly the place you picture spending your first turkey day, huh? At least he had Meghan to keep him company. I don't think she let this little boy get more than a few inches away from her the entire two days they were here! What can I say? He's a ladies man! Meghan fed Sterling in the walker, while Ella ate in the highchair at the big table. Of course, they only made it through the first 15 minutes of their first Thanksgiving dinner anyways. The babies always go down for a nap at 5pm, and our dinner fell at exactly 5pm. So, each baby ate some sweet potatoes, and then it was off to bed for a nap while the adults enjoyed a peaceful, and more importantly, a quiet dinner.
Since Jennifer won't be able to make it home for Christmas this year, and the kids and I will hopefully be back in Korea with Michael by Christmas, we decided to have Christmas a little early this year. We have a tradition in my family of opening one gift each on Christmas Eve, so since we were planning on opening gifts the morning after Thanksgiving (while the rest of the world stormed the malls) we decreed that Thanksgiving would also act as Christmas Eve this year. Ella and Sterling were just so excited to wake up from their naps to rip open paper. Of course, every bit of paper then went in their mouths!
Presents are just too big of a temptation for this little girl. She was happy to help everyone open their gifts.
Leave it to Billy to pick out the cutest, tiniest little Kenneth Cole pin stripped suit ever! Can you believe they even make suits this small? Sterling is going to be one styling little guy in his new duds. Looks like it’s going to be time for more pictures!
This little girl was just in heaven playing "little mommy" to Ella and Sterling for the weekend.
