December 08- Happy sweet sixteen to the sweetest girl we know!

Today we celebrated our dear sweet Ashley's 16th birthday! Technically she isn't 16 until the 9th, but such a big birthday deserves a whole weekend worth of celebrating, don't you think? We took Ashley to Osaka's Japanese Steak House along with Linda, Becky and baby Maddox. Talk about a full table! Baby, adult, baby, adult and so on....I can't even begin to tell you how excited Ella and Sterling were to sit in highchairs at the table. In the past they've had to wait patiently in the stroller or a carrier when at a restaurant. No more! It's a whole new vantage point when you're actually at the table with the "big people." Ella sat with Ashley (and tried to "help" her open her birthday gifts). Ella wants to be as cute as Ashley when she grows up! Maddox sat between his Grammy and his Mommy. He's not quite big enough to sit by himself in a highchair, but sadly it won't be too long. All these babies just grow far too quickly. Makes this Mommy very sad. Unfortunately, they didn't know the antics that were about to ensue. Those crazy Japanese cooks can't be trusted. This is a happy Sterling BEFORE the fire on the hibachi grill. Poor thing, he had no idea what was coming down the bend!

Don't you just LOVE his driving cap? If ever a baby was made to wear a driving cap, it was this little Boydston (my maiden name) baby.

If he had only known.....

Poor Sterling, he had no idea what was involved when he agreed to go to dinner at the Japanese steak house. Who are we kidding? He never had any say in the matter. He was so happy, sitting at the big table, watching all the comings and goings. And then the "show" started. Knives were tapping, rice was flying, and an onion volcano erupted, spewing fire! Needless to say, the boy was terrified. No, he was beyond terrified; he was bone shaking petrified. A primal fear just washed over his entire face, and then a cry I've never heard before came from the pit of his stomach. It was one of the saddest, most pitiful, and absolutely hilarious things I've ever seen before. I quickly grabbed him out of his highchair and held him as close as I could. The poor child had me in a death grip. I thought I had him calmed down, so I put him back in his highchair, only to realize he was shaking like a leaf and wouldn't take his eyes off of the cook. Sterling has one thing to say about the whole incident, "Bad Japanese man."
If there's one thing Sterling learned tonight it's that men who flip knives into the air are not to be trusted with fire. He may be scarred for life!
