What a way to start the Fourth of July! Munching on a cereal bar on a balcony over looking the sea! Hard life kid.
After breakfast we had to stop by and feed the fish...they're getting bigger if that's even possible.
We made the hike down to the beach. Our one and only trip to the beach. It was SCRAY! No way would I let my kids play in that water. It was seriously some of the roughest, strongest currents I've ever seen! The life gaurds were posted in boats just off the shore waiting to scoop people up when they got dragged out. So, we didn't do much more than wade...up to our ankles. Ella and Sterling had fun playing in the sand. There were a few pittiful attempts at building a sand castle, but lava rock sand it too gitty for contruction.
We also learned the harsh reality that sand should not go in your mouth. It's not as tasty as it might look.
There's our beach front hotel...situated high above the ocean!
Volcanic rocks on the shoreline.
After the beach we were ready to splash in some slightly less hazardous waters, so we headed to the hotel pool. The kiddie pool was perfect!
I have to wonder how many pictures of my children are floating around Asia. I just don't get it. Everywhere we go people want to take their picture with the kids. This afternoon I took the kids to walk around while Michael got ready for our "date". We bumped into this group who asked if they could take their picture with the kids. Seriously? What happens to all these pictures? Do people go home and put them in a photo album? Do they show them to their friends? What use is it to have a picture with 2 complete strangers- no matter how cute they are?
No matter that we're on the other side of the world, we're still dressed up to celebrate our independence day!
Tonight Michael and I hired a sitter through the hotel. They sent a lovely young lady who spoke great English down to our room to sit with the kids while Michael and I went out to dinner. How exciting! A real date, with no kids! We went to the Lotte Hotel next door to our hotel. It reminded me so much of a Vegas casino. It was ornate and well, gaudy. We took a horse drawn carriage ride then had fondue for dinner.
Happy 4th of July!
